We are heading into fall. I love the fall. There’s something about the coolness of the morning, the changes of the leaves, the chance to curl up with a good book that seems so cozy after a long hot summer.  We’re not used to hot summers in the northwest and it’s been different for us.  We can’t complain about the heat even for a minute when we compare our weather to the rest of the country. Summer in the northwest was sweet but the promise of fall seems sweeter.

As summer was coming to a close, I was inspired to ask on my Facebook page who would want to read with me this fall. I’ve spent so many years reading good books that have been life changing for me.   I wondered if there would be anyone who wanted to do the same. I was surprised at the response. Lots of woman contacted me and before you knew it, the FALL BOOK CLUB was established.  I choose a book, opened a group page and secured a location to meet a month later.

I’ve never been involved in a book club before. That’s right, I’m leading this one without ever having participated in one! That seems right to me.  I won’t have any pre-conceived ideas. I won’t be put in a box by rules of how it’s supposed to be and I won’t limit myself as to what it could be. Sounds fun doesn’t it?

Here’s what I DO think it will be.  Super inspiring! Imagine 50, 60 or more women (guys can come too) interested in reading and more important interested in connection. We need connection, in fact we are hardwired to connect with others. It’s what gives us purpose and meaning in life.  And it just happens that our first book is all about connection. Brene Brown wrote “Daring Greatly” and we will be reading and discussing it for our very first book.   I think that’s perfect.

I’m sure we will read some great novels, some self-help, fiction and non-fiction, but I think to start with a writing that will help us connect is just BRILLIANT! (I’m not taking credit for the book choice; it was just collecting dust on my nightstand so I thought we might as well start with it.)

I’m not sure why this book club started and I’m not sure where it will take us, but I’m excited! I’ve always been one to walk forward through open doors without forcing my agenda and I’ve never been disappointed yet. I’ve got a feeling that this is going to be a happening that we are going to want to be a part of. Reading changes lives and connection is what gives us purpose. Sounds like that a pretty awesome combo.

If you’re not a part of our Book Club yet, it’s not too late to join.  Search “Letha’s Book Club” on Facebook and request to be added. I have a warm feeling about it, I think you will too.

Journey on, Letha
